BANGI, Oct 19 — An allocation of RM1.2 million will be distributed to 20 public universities to implement the Keluarga Malaysia Cheap Sales for Undergraduates (JMKMSiswa) programme which will give the undergraduates a discount of up to 20 per cent for purchase of essential items.

Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Tan Sri Noh Omar said 13 cooperative premises and seven entrepreneurship units at 20 public universities were selected as the implementers of the JMKMSiswa programme, with each university equally receiving RM60,000 to provide the discount incentives.

"Sellers will offer discounted prices for items deemed essential for the students, such as dry food, books, stationery, mobile prepaid top-up cards, daily necessities and many more,” he said when launching the JMKMSiswa programme at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) here today.

Noh said the JMKMSiswa programme is being implemented following the overwhelming response received for the Keluarga Malaysia Cheap Sales (JMKM) programme implemented at the parliamentary and state constituency levels nationwide.

The JMKMSiswa programme, which aims at alleviating the undergraduates’ cost of living, will run until December 18. — Bernama
