JOHOR BARU, Oct 17 — The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance’s (Muda) ceramah in Muar last night was disrupted by a group of rowdy youths on motorcycles, causing a delay to the event.
The incident started shortly after Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman took to the stage to deliver his speech.
"In the middle of Syed Saddiq's speech, the group of youths started being provocative by chanting penipu, followed with an attempt to create a scene in the tent area,” Muda vice-president Mutalib Uthman said in a statement late last night.
Penipu is the Malay word for liar.
Mutalib said Muda volunteers and police then moved in to chase off the provocateurs, but added that the group returned later and continued to make a scene on the road leading to the ceramah area.
Despite the provocation, Syed Saddiq, who is incumbent Muar MP, continued his speech.
In his speech, Syed Saddiq addressed the rabble rousers and said they should play a role in upholding the country’s dignity instead of carrying out provocations.
"I don't have time to fight with them because I'm here to defend Muar people and not want to let them be in hardship and difficulty. It's OK to let it go,” he said in a video that was uploaded on his Facebook page.
Muda also released two video clips showing the group of youths on motorcycles disrupting its Muar ceramah.
