In JB, firemen free worker trapped under own lorry in freak accident

JOHOR BARU, Aug 24 — A solid waste management and public cleaning worker sustained light injuries in a freak incident after he was pinned under the company’s unmanned lorry after it ploughed into him along Jalan Sentosa in Kampung Melayu Majidee here today.

The 54-year-old male victim, who is also the lorry driver under SWM Environment Sdn Bhd, was reported to be in stable condition after receiving treatment at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA).

Tebrau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) operations commander Mohd Shahril Sapar said firemen received the distress call regarding the incident at 1.43pm.

He said a total of six firemen and a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicle were immediately despatched to the scene.

"The accident involved a three-tonne lorry owned by the victim’s employer SWM Environment,” he said on a statement issued here today.

Mohd Shahril said it was understood that the company’s workers were doing road cleaning work at the time of incident.

"When the workers were in the midst of carrying out the cleaning work, the unmanned lorry moved.

"The lorry then ploughed into the victim causing him to be pinned and trapped under the vehicle,” he said.

Mohd Shahril explained that the team used three units of air bag units and a spreader unit to remove the victim from under the lorry.

He said the victim was successfully removed before being handed over to paramedics and was later taken to hospital.

"The entire operation ended at 2.25pm,” he said.
