KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 — Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 cases flew past the 10,000-mark today, recording 10,089 cases today.
This is the first time that cases have passed the 10,000-mark, with the last time being October 1 last year when the country recorded 10,915 cases.
Today’s cases bring the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 2,914,220.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that only 77 infections or 0.8 per cent of today’s cases are in category 3, 4 and 5 — which require hospitalisation.
"In terms of patients being treated in intensive care units (ICU), there are currently 137 nationwide. Of this, 83 have been confirmed positive while the remaining are either suspected, probable or under investigation for Covid-19.
"Of this, 71 patients require ventilatory assistance to breathe, of which 35 are confirmed Covid-19 positive,” he said.
On a brighter note, Dr Noor Hisham said that 6,460 people have recovered from the deadly disease, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 2,812,614 or 96.5 per cent.
He added that 11 more Covid-19 clusters have also been identified in the past 24 hours.
This brings the number of active clusters in the country to 361.
Malaysia’s current rate of infectivity currently stands at 1.20, with Perlis being the state with the highest infectivity rate, at 1.49.
This is followed by Sabah (1.41), Putrajaya (1.29) and Kedah (1.22).
Selangor’s infectivity rate stands at 1.19, while Kuala Lumpur’s stands at 1.12.
Only Labuan has a 0-infectivity rate among all states and federal territories in Malaysia.
