Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 cases stay below 10,000 mark for third consecutive day

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 — Daily Covid-19 cases in Malaysia ticked up slightly to 8,817 cases today, from yesterday’s 8,075 cases, but the figure also means the country has seen cases below the five figures for the third day in a row.

Cases were still high in Selangor (1,348 cases), Sarawak (1,361 cases) and Kelantan (1,063 cases), which represented the top three most infectious states in the last 24-hour period.

Johor (886 cases), Sabah (805 cases) and Pahang (696 cases) rounded off the top six.

Labuan had the least number of cases at three.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement said that there are 851 individuals currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 36 of them still being checked for Covid-19. 

From that total, 395 are in need of a ventilator to breathe from which 332 are confirmed Covid-19 positive. The rest are still under investigation.

Another 14 new clusters were also reported today 11 of which were workplace clusters, two community clusters, one high risk group cluster and another education cluster.

Workplace clusters contributed to 286 cases today and there are a total of 956 active clusters to date.

Apart from that, active cases total 142,860 while the death toll has reached 26,759, including those categorised as brought in dead.
