Malaysia logs 14,554 new Covid-19 cases in past 24 hours

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 — The Ministry of Health recorded 14,554 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of cases since the pandemic began to 2,171,232.

Sarawak logged the most cases among the states and Federal Territories, with 2,825 today; followed by Selangor (2,244), Johor (1,807) Sabah (1,273) and Penang (1,231).

Kuala Lumpur recorded 271 cases in the same period.

At the same time, the lowest number of cases was recorded in Perlis with 65 and Putrajaya with 30. Labuan did not record any new cases today.

Of all the new cases today, nine were imported.

Meanwhile, 16,751 Covid-19 patients were recorded to have recovered from the disease in the past 24 hours, bringing the nationwide recovery rate to 89.8 per cent.

A total of 1,049 people are still warded in intensive care units nationwide, with 599 of them needing breathing assistance.

The national average Rt or infectivity rate is currently 0.90.

By state, Pahang and Perak have the highest Rt at 1.05 each, followed by Perlis with 1.01.

There were 20 new clusters recorded today, and active clusters now number 1,250.
