Health Ministry: Malaysia has 16,840 new Covid-19 cases today, nearly half from Klang Valley

KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 — Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 numbers took a slight dip over the past 24 hours to 16,840 today, after infections exceeded the 17,000 mark for the past two days.

The new cases also pushed the cumulative total to 1,095,486 cases since the pandemic arrived in Malaysia.

By location, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor again topped the list with 6,092 new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (2,114) and Kedah (1,281).

Johor was the next highest with 1,104 cases, followed by Negri Sembilan (1,079), Sabah (1,066), Perak (810), Penang (689), Kelantan (656), Melaka (581), Pahang (540), Sarawak (450), Terengganu (258), Putrajaya (100), Perlis (13), and Labuan (seven).

Dr Noor Hisham said the national infectivity rate (Rt) currently stands at 1.15, based on yesterday’s caseload.

Terengganu has the highest Rt value at 1.36.

Other states and Federal Territories that recorded Rt above 1.0 are: Kelantan (1.27), Sabah (1.22), Kedah (1.21), Johor, Penang and Perak (1.18 each), Pahang and Putrajaya (1.15 each), Kuala Lumpur (1.14), Selangor (1.10), Sarawak (1.07), and Melaka (1.04).

Despite recording above 1,000-mark in daily cases today, Negri Sembilan recorded 0.91, while Labuan at 0.68.

Dr Noor Hisham said there were 47 new Covid-19 clusters, including 24 from workplaces, 17 from within the general community, three from high risk groups, two from education centers, and one from a religious centre.

He added that the clusters with the highest increase in new cases today are the Industri Jalan Sepintas cluster (250 cases), Tapak Bina Persiaran Rembayu cluster (224 cases) and Industri Ringan Mantin cluster (94 cases).
