Taman Hock Ann in KL tops Malaysia’s new Covid-19 clusters today with 185 infections

KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 — A new cluster dubbed Taman Hock Ann in Lembah Pantai here saw 174 people testing positive for Covid-19 out of 299 screened, the Health Ministry said today.

With the new findings, the cluster now has 185 cases in total.

"This cluster was identified as a result of targeted screening in communities involving residents in Taman Hock Ann, Lembah Pantai,” Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement tonight.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had announced two days ago that Taman Hock Ann would be placed under a two-week enhanced movement control order (EMCO) starting today until August 7.

The second largest cluster reported today is the Tapak Bina Jalan Meranti cluster in Bentong, Pahang. The Genting Highland construction site cluster saw 120 positive cases from 121 people screened.

The third largest cluster was another construction site, this time in Segamat, Johor. Tapak Bina Kampung Sedeng along Jalan Sedeng 2 saw 87 positive cases from 221 people screened.

"Of today’s 34 new clusters, six each were detected in Johor and Sabah, five each in Selangor and Kelantan, three each in Kedah, Perak and Pahang, and one each in Terengganu, Negri Sembilan and Kuala Lumpur,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

Over in Johor, the Persiaran Desa Tebrau cluster involved workers in a supermarket in Taman Desa Tebrau, Johor, with 26 individuals confirmed positive after 234 people were screened.

"The index patient for this case is a 19-year-old local who tested positive on July 23 from targeted screenings. The cluster started to take shape on July 18, 2021,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

In Kelantan, the Kampung Budi Tawang cluster sparked as a result of a 25-year-old local who tested positive on July 19 before he was imprisoned, resulting in three new Covid-19 cases from 37 individuals screened.

"The name of this cluster refers to the locality in which the index patients spread Covid-19 among the community, which is Kampung Budi, Jalan Tawang, Bachok, Kedah,” he said.

In Selangor, the Bagan Sabak cluster involves a fishery company located in Bagan Sungai Besar, Sabak Bernam — which resulted in 13 positive cases.

"The index patient for this cluster is a 42-year-old man from who was confirmed positive on July 24. The spread of Covid-19 in this locality began on July 14,” he said.

Over in Sabah, the Simpang Tiga Ranau involves a medical facility located near Simpang 3, Ranau, Sabah, of which an employee in that medical facility was found to be positive on July 19, resulting in 3 more positive cases.

Overall, the 34 new clusters bring the number of active clusters in the country to 992. The total number of discovered clusters in the country at 3,452, with 2,460 clusters declared to have ended.
