KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 — Another 77 people died from Covid-19 around the country today, raising the cumulative fatality rate to 4,554 since the outbreak of the disease in Malaysia last year.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that 875 Covid-19 patients have been warded in intensive care units (ICU), adding that 445 needed ventilators.
Of today’s deaths, 52 were from the at-risk category of those above 60-years-old. Four were aged 40 and below, including a 25-year-old woman who died at Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail in Batu Pahat, Johor.
Eleven were people who were brought-in-dead.
All but five of the deceased were Malaysians.
Only 10 did not have preexisting health problems.
"A total of 77 death cases today involving 32 cases in Selangor, 12 cases in Negri Sembilan, eight cases in Johor, seven cases in Sarawak, four cases in Melaka, three cases each in Sabah and Labuan, as well as one case each in Pahang, Perlis and Terengganu,” Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement.
