Daily Covid-19 infections in Malaysia continue to soar with 7,857 new cases today

KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 — Covid-19 cases in Malaysia continue to rise with 7,857 new cases recorded today.

This is the third day in a row that Malaysia has registered more than 7,000 cases in one day.

In a tweet, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor has the highest number of new Covid-19 cases by state once again, at 2,675.

Sarawak and Kelantan come in second and third, at 772 and 754 infections respectively.

The rest of the states and federal territories are as follows: Kuala Lumpur (561), Johor (549), Kedah (441), Penang (365), Negri Sembilan (353), Terengganu (282), Pahang (238), Melaka (234), Perak (228), Sabah (217), Labuan (170), Putrajaya (12) and Perlis (six).

There are now 69,408 active Covid-19 cases nationwide.

"Of the 7,857 new cases today, only eight were imported into the country. They involve two Malaysians and six foreigners.

On a brighter note, Dr Noor Hisham said 4,598 patients recovered today, bringing the total number of recoveries from the deadly disease to 469,325 or 86.7 per cent.
