KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 — The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced 6,320 new Covid-19 cases today, lifting the country’s cumulative figure to 505,115 since the virus arrived in Malaysia early last year.

Selangor topped the list of new daily cases with 1,647, followed by Sarawak (749) and Kuala Lumpur (654).

Johor was next with 477 cases, ahead of Negri Sembilan (396), Penang (359), Kedah (301), Perak (276), Pahang (227), Sabah (189), Terengganu (185), Melaka (175), Labuan (36),Putrajaya and Perlis which had 18 each.

Fifty more lives were lost to the disease in the last 24 hours, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a joint press conference this evening.

Selangor had the highest number of fatalities at 22, followed by KL with nine, Johor (five), Kedah (four), and Perak (three).

Sarawak and Pahang each had two deaths while Negri Sembilan, Melaka, and Kelantan had one each.

Dr Noor Hisham said a total of 652 Covid-19 patients are currently warded in intensive care, including 370 on ventilators.

Recoveries lagged behind new cases again today, with just 4,694 former patients discharged.

Dr Noor Hisham also reported 17 more Covid-19 clusters including seven each from workplaces and within the general community, three from religious centres, and one within a high risk group.

The number of Covid-19 clusters still considered active is 535.
