KUALA LUMPUR, May 13 — The Health Ministry recorded 4,855 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the total number of cases detected in Malaysia since the beginning of the pandemic to 458,077.
According to Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, Selangor alone had 1,783 cases — the highest in the country by far.
This was followed by Kuala Lumpur (521 cases), Johor (467 cases), Sarawak and Penang (395 cases respectively).
Aside from Kelantan (339 cases), Perak (302 cases), Kedah (193 cases) and Terengganu (148 cases); the remaining states and territories logged under 100 new cases today.
Cases in Putrajaya and Labuan were in the single digits, at nine and four cases respectively, while no cases were recorded in Perlis.
Meanwhile, 3,347 Covid-19 patients recovered from the disease in the past 24 hours.
However, this still resulted in a net increase of active Covid-19 case numbers to 41,582.
Furthermore, twenty-seven patients — all Malaysians — died in the same period.
The youngest among them was a 37-year-old man without a history of chronic illness.
The others deceased comprised 17 men and nine women, aged between 50 and 83.
Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll currently stands at 1,788 people, with a death rate of 0.39 per cent.
Dr Noor Hisham also added that, as of today, 481 Covid-19 patients were in intensive care units (ICUs) across the country, with 247 of them needing breathing assistance — both numbers being new record highs.
He also identified eight new clusters today, comprising five "workplace” clusters, two "community” clusters, and one "religious” cluster.
The largest of these clusters is the Jalan Kereta Api workplace cluster in Selangor, which has 24 known Covid-19 cases.
There are currently 457 Covid-19 active clusters nationwide, out of the 1,848 clusters identified since the start of the pandemic.
