KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19 — The Ministry of Health announced today that Malaysia recorded another 2,936 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, with Selangor still topping the list with the highest number of new infections.

In a statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that out of today’s 2,936 new cases, 17 were imported ones.

He added that 13 deaths were registered today from the Covid-19 virus, bringing the total number of fatalities from the disease in Malaysia to 1,043.

"Today’s deaths involved six cases in Kuala Lumpur, three cases in Selangor, two cases in Sarawak and one each in Melaka and Johor,” he said.

The individuals were between the ages of 53 and 84 — all of them Malaysian, except for one.

"Currently, we have 220 Covid-19 patients being treated in intensive care units (ICU), with 104 of them requiring ventilators to help them breathe,” Dr Noor Hisham added.

Dr Noor Hisham said that Selangor still registered the highest number of new Covid-19 cases at 978, followed by Johor with 730 and Kuala Lumpur at 227.

Other states recording new Covid-19 cases are Sarawak (199), Negri Sembilan (191), Penang (188), Perak (155), Sabah (101), Kelantan (38), Terengganu (37), Kedah (36), Pahang (26), Melaka (26), Putrajaya (3) and Labuan (1).

Dr Noor Hisham added that 13 new Covid-19 clusters were also identified today, with 10 of them involving workplaces, two involving communities and one in a high-risk group.

Five of the new clusters were discovered in Johor, two in Selangor, Sarawak and Terengganu each, and one in Sabah and Kuala Lumpur respectively.

He added that eight existing clusters also came to an end today, bringing the total number clusters that have ended to 547.

"These clusters are the Halban, Tombovo, Kauran, Kubang Bujuk, Tapak Bina Jalan Yap, Jalan Perwira, Jalan Indah Gemilang and Tembok Nanas clusters,” Dr Noor Hisham said.
