KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 30 — The Health Ministry reported a record high of 5,728 new cases of Covid-19 — three more than yesterday’s new high and 13 deaths in the past 24 hours.
Selangor once again recorded the highest daily case at 3,285 cases followed by Johor (792) and Kuala Lumpur (480).
The new infections today brings the total tally of Covid-19 cases in the country to 209,661.
The ministry also recorded 3,805 new recoveries today, while total active cases now stands at 47,388.
The 13 dead today comprised 12 Malaysians and one foreigner, aged between 41 to 78. All of them had existing medical conditions.
The 13 new deaths reported today brings Malaysia’s cumulative death tally to 746.
The Ministry said at the moment there are 319 patients being treated in the intensive care units with 120 patients requiring breathing aid.
The new cases today involved 5,723 local infections and five imported cases.
Other states that recorded three-digit infections are Sabah (263), Sarawak (191), Negeri Sembilan (158), Perak (112) and Penang (101).
They were followed by Kedah (99), Terengganu (85), Pahang (51), Melaka (42), Labuan 29), Kelantan (28) and Putrajaya (12).
Perlis did not report any cases today.
Earlier today, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Amirudin Shari said most of the cases recorded yesterday – 5725 are attributed to the backlog that came from the results of Covid-19 screening undertaken at factories, prisons as well from private clinics and hospitals that were not reported in "real-time”.
He added that some cases even dated as far back as 10 days ago.
As a result, Amirudin stated that the State Health Department will compound private clinics or hospitals that did not report positive cases on the same day through the Public Health Laboratory information system (SIMKA).
