Covid-19: Three new clusters found in KL, Johor, Sabah

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 20 — The Health Ministry announced three new Covid-19 clusters today, namely the Metropolis Construction Site cluster in Kuala Lumpur, the Maju Estate cluster in Sabah and Batu 39 cluster in Johor.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the latest detection raises the number of active clusters in the country to 199.

Overall, Malaysia has recorded a total of 443 clusters since the virus first broke out.

In a statement today, Dr Noor Hisham said the Metropolis Construction Site cluster involved the Kepong district with 147 Covid-19 positive cases detected to date.

He added that the first cases in the cluster were detected through workplace screenings on December 14, and a total of 481 people have been screened so far.

Regarding the Maju Estate cluster, Dr Noor Hisham said it involves the Putatan and Tuaran districts, and to date, 28 there have been found Covid-19 positive.

He said the Maju Estate’s index patient was found through screening of a symptomatic person on December 8. A total of 63 people has been screened in relation to the cluster.

The Batu 39 cluster involves the district of Pontian, with 28 related Covid-19 positive cases identified so far.

Its first case was found through a workplace screening on December 18. To date, 152 related people have been screened.

Dr Noor Hisham added that three clusters ended today, making the overall number of Covid-19 clusters that ended in Malaysia to 244.
