KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 ― Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today took to Twitter to express his disappointment with Datuk Seri Najib Razak's supporters, many of whom were pictured flouting the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) during their gathering this morning.
The Health director-general posted in reply to news state agency Bernama’s tweet of the matter, saying the ministry has reminded the public of the SOP almost every day but they are still being contravened.
"It has already been made clear by the Ministry of Health almost every day reminding Malaysians to abide by the SOP for a safe distancing of about 1 metre, wearing the face mask and regularly washing hands.
"It is very saddening to see a situation such as this where there is no self-control,” he posted.
Najib’s supporters turned up in their thousands at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex in the morning, anxiously anticipating the fate that was to befall the former prime minister on his judgment day regarding the seven charges brought against him in relation to the RM42 million SRC International Sdn Bhd trial.
Malaysians took to their social media platforms to criticise the antics of Najib’s supporters, and voiced concern over the possibility of a new Covid-19 cluster, after the Ministry of Health (MOH) began recording double digit cases again in recent days.
Some had also questioned if the authorities would penalise the Umno supporters who flouted the government’s order.
Najib was earlier convicted and found guilty on all seven charges of misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International by the High Court.
News portal Malaysia Gazette, however, reported that the Kuala Lumpur police would be issuing compounds to Najib’s supporters, as well as several Umno MPs who were seen in the crowd.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) deputy director Deputy Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid was quoted by the news portal as saying that orders have been given to the Kuala Lumpur CID to penalise those who flouted the government’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) introduced to prevent an even bigger Covid-19 breakout.
