SHAH ALAM, June 2 — Customers of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) may now opt to pay for their electricity bills accrued from March to May during the movement control order (MCO) using partial payments between now and December.
TNB’s chief retail officer Megat Jalaludin Megat Hassan told reporters that no additional charges would be imposed on customers who opt for the easy payment scheme.
He said that the scheme was open to all subscriber categories.
"We offer this easy payment scheme to all users, about 7.7 million users thereabout, automatically, and we do not impose any additional surcharge for instalment payments.
"For example, if the principal amount is RM600, the bill remains at RM600. No additional charges and we will bill the user monthly until December 2020,” Megat said.
Megat Jalaludin said many customers had visited TNB’s Kedai Tenaga since its reopening to ask about their electricity billing.
He added that TNB is currently focused on helping ease the hardship of the public as many have lost their jobs and sources of income due to Covid-19.
While electricity usage had increased among TNB’s residential customers, the converse was true of businesses.
Megat Jalaludin said a large number of businesses have also not been able to operate during the movement control order (MCO) period, attributing it to the government order to stay home.
He said TNB found that the energy usage of most businesses had fallen about 30 to 50 per cent.
Megat Jalaludin said that TNB has offered three packages for businesses to help those with cash flow problems.
He said businesses have been informed they could defer their bill payment.
