KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 — Malaysia recorded 22 new Covid-19 cases today, with five of those being import cases who were infected abroad.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that 17 of the 22 infection cases were locally infected, out of which nine are foreigners.

There were no deaths recorded today.

"To date, there are 13 Covid-19 positive cases being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Of these, seven require ventilators.

"From the latest information reported to the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), it is to be noted that there are no cases of Covid-19 related deaths so far.

"Thus, the cumulative number of Covid-19 deaths in Malaysia remains at 113 cases, 1.64 per cent of the total number of cases,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

He added that 59 patients had also been discharged today, putting the cumulative discharge number at 5,571 cases.
