KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 — An additional allocation of RM130 million will be channelled to each state government to mitigate the outbreak of the Covid-19 outbreak, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced today.
In a special address announcing several economic injections for the country, Muhyiddin said this newly announced allocation would be equal for all states regardless of the political position of the respective state administrations.
"Equal allocations will be given to each state, without taking into account which (political) party has formed the state government.
"The crisis we are all facing is affecting all of the rakyat regardless of race, religion or political alliances,” he said.
He then urged everyone, regardless of political alliances, to band together and unite in handling the crisis taking over the country, adding that the health, safety, and lives of the people is the joint responsibility of everyone.
Muhyiddin suggested the cash injection be used by the respective state governments to ease the burden felt by small-time businesses and traders, adding aid could also be channeled towards those directly affected by the virus.
"The allocation can be used as aid to Covid-19 patients and their family members while also arranging for the requirements for officials of their respective state governments on duty involved in containing this crisis,” he said.
This as Malaysia today entered its sixth day of a two-week shutdown to break the chain of the Covid-19 outbreak, which has since taken the lives of 11 and infected some 1,306 people as of Sunday evening.
