PUTRAJAYA, March 16 — Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today announced that all major projects announced under Budget 2020 will proceed as planned, despite the Covid-19 pandemic’s impact on the economy.
In a press conference today, Muhyiddin, who also chairs the government’s Economic Action Council (EAC), said that the economic stimulus package would also be executed as planned.
"Based on the meeting, the government will ensure the implementation of the Economic Stimulus Package 2020 (PRE2020) as announced on February 27, 2020, and continue the implementation of all projects allocated for under Budget 2020, including the ECRL, MRT2, as well as the National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP).
"The government will also continue responsible fiscal policies and business-friendly policies to attract quality investments,” Muhyiddin said.
On March 3, Muhyiddin called for federal government agencies to focus on and implement the steps announced in Budget 2020 and PRE2020 launched by the previous administration.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said Muhyiddin has called for government spending to be done prudently and for leakages to be reduced to ensure the robustness of the country’s financial position.
Early this month, Muhyiddin said the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 (SPV2030) will continue to be a key agenda under his administration, as he pledged to push for equitable development and elevate living standards.
In a special address to the nation, Muhyiddin said addressing inequality is a main focus as the eighth prime minister outlined his immediate policies, vowing to spur growth and "restore the nation’s glory”.
Muhyiddin has also called for government debts and liabilities to be addressed, after the Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad administration previously came clean on Putrajaya’s RM1 trillion liabilities inherited from the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration.
