‘Car Food Sahur’ in Batu Buruk beach continues attracting visitors each night

KUALA TERENGGANU, June 3 — A group of Terengganu youths from the Car Food Sale Community returned to organise the ‘Car Food Sahur’ programme at the Batu Buruk beach here for the fourth year.

Its spokesman, Aril Arif Abd Razak said the programme, which offers a variety of local traditional dishes, was attracting not less than 200 visitors each night.

"There are more visitors this year, probably because the number of vendors involved has increased to 25 from only 18 last year.

"We have also extended the operating hour from midnight to 5 am so that more visitors can enjoy their pre-dawn meals with friends and family,” he said when met by reporters here.

Visitors who came would not only be able to enjoy their meals on laid out mats by the beach, but also be entertained by the KT Busker band.

"As in previous years, no fee is charged to vendors for setting up stalls, and part of the proceeds from the sales will be given to selected charitable body.

"In fact, this year, we have also collaborated with the volunteers from SPRING at the Ladang Mosque to hold breaking-of-fast events with orphans, and distribute food to the homeless around Kuala Terengganu,” Aril Arif said.

A visitor, Shazni Zainuddin, 31, said the Car Food Sahur programme provided more choice to youths to enjoy pre-dawn meals, within a setting which promotes friendship and bonding with family members.

"In the city, it’s hard to get food late at night, because many shops close just after midnight. Here, I am able to take my pre-dawn meal with a variety of favourite delicacies such as Nasi Minyak, Laksa Terengganu and local cakes,” he said.

Meanwhile, Safuwan Mohd Saidi said he and his family loved the idea of eating traditionally on a mat, while enjoying the cool breeze of the sea.

"I look forward to enjoying pre-dawn meals in this casual and relaxed setting each year during Ramadan, and I have come here several times now with my friends and family,” said Safuwan who loves the traditional Terengganu delicacy, ‘nekbat’. — Bernama
