KUALA LUMPUR, May 10- Former Prime Minister and current Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was sworn in as the seventh Prime Minister of Malaysia today, the first ever for a PH federal government.

At 92, the nonagenarian becomes the oldest elected leader in the world, after he was sworn in by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V at Istana Negara, at 9.57 tonight.

Dr Mahathir, who was previously Prime Minister for the Barisan Nasional government for five terms between 1981 to 2003, took his oath some 36 years, 9 months and 25 days since he first took the office in July 16, 1981. He was 56 years old back then.

Dr Mahathir stepped down from the post in 2003 after being in office for 22 years. Fifteen years later, he has assumed the same post again.

Also in attendance at the ceremony were PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, PPBM president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.

The newly elected Langkawi MP, who turns 93 in two months, was dressed in a a black and gold embroidered Baju Melayu during the ceremony, which was cheered on by hundreds of Pakatan Harapan supporters outside the gates of Istana Negara.
