KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 — The PAS administration of Kelantan has failed to provide even reliable access to basic utilities, said the son of the late Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat, who is contesting against the Islamist party in the state.
Nik Omar Nik Aziz, who is running for the Chempaka seat on PKR’s ticket, pointed out that PAS’ motto was "Developing with Islam”, but noted that Kelantan has experienced years of problems with hygiene and clean water.
"For example, they have failed to keep the state clean, and it has one of the lowest cleanliness levels compared to other states,” he was quoted as saying by the Harian Metro newspaper today.
"The water issue has dragged on for years on end, but God willing, if [Pakatan Harapan] takes Kelantan, then all problems will be rectified,” he said.
Nik Omar, who is also the pact’s candidate to be mentri besar, told Kelantan voters that backing the pact did not mean they were choosing to abandon Islam.
Instead, he reassured them that the state would continue to be governed using Islamic principles.
"However our approach is different to that of PAS. We hold onto the Quran as our guide, but also focus on developing the state, and if possible the country as well,” he said.
A PH administration would also retain existing policies that are shown to be beneficial to the public, he added.
