KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 — DAP's Lim Kit Siang yesterday said six political tsunamis need to take place for the Opposition to take over Putrajaya in the 14th general election(GE14), with the most important one being the rural tsunami.
He said the Malay tsunami in rural areas and Felda regions were already taking place and called for all races to unite together in the upcoming general polls for the Malaysian tsunami to take over and bring change.
Lim, who was announced as DAP's Seri Iskandar candidate yesterday, said the six political tsunamis includes the urban tsunami, rural tsunami, Sabah tsunami, Sarawak tsunami, women tsunami, and youth tsunami.
He said the previous election had seen the urban and semi-urban political tsunami of all races, however the public must not take for granted that there would be an equal degree of urban tsunami in GE14.
"If Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, Ibans, Orang Asli all unite now to demand a change and bring an end to Umno or BN policies... a new Malaysia will be born after May 9. Hence my hope is to also see a Sabah tsunami and a Sarawak tsunami.
"But I want to see another two tsunami — women tsunami and youth tsunami. DAP is fielding more woman and youth candidates,” he said in his speech at the DAP Iskandar Puteri general elections fundraising dinner in Skudai, Johor Baru, last night.
Lim said DAP had fielded nine candidates under the age of 30, with his 25-year-old political secretary, Kerk Chee Yee, as the youngest candidate contesting for the Ayer Keroh state seat in Malacca.
He said the remaining eight youth candidates in Selangor includes — Bandar Utama candidate Jamaliah Jamaluddin, 29, Subang Jaya candidate Michelle Ng, 28, Kampung Tunku candidate Lim Yi Wei, 28, while in Perak Canning candidate Choy Tsi Jen, 30, Astaka candidate Teoh Yee Chern, 28, Ketari, Pahang candidate Syefura Othman, 28, Kota Darul Aman, Kedah candidate Teh Swee Leong, 28 and Luyang, Sabah candidate, Phoong Jin Zhe.
"I was announced as the DAP or Pakatan Harapan candidate for Iskandar Puteri by DAP Secretary-General and caretaker Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng.
"This moment reminded me of the political ceramah in Pay Fong Chinese Independent Secondary School in Malacca 32 years ago in 1986, where I introduced Guan Eng as the DAP candidate for the Kota Melaka parliamentary constituency.
"This is in accordance with the Chinese saying, ‘just as the waves of the Yangtze River behind drive on those ahead, so does each generation replace the old one’.
"This is important as Malaysia has a very youthful population.
"It is now time for voters to decide if they would change their Prime Minister on May 9 this year. This is the decision in the hands of the 15 million Malaysian voters on May 9,” he said.
Lim said Malaysians have to reignite and reinspire hope among the 15 million registered voters on the chance to change the government for the first time in the nation's 61-year history, as he said this is the last opportunity to save Malaysia as the chance will not come again in the next 20 to 30 years.
