IPOH, Jan 31 — M. Indira Gandhi said she and her two children would not forgive her ex-husband and their father, Muhammad Riduan Abdullah, for abducting their youngest daughter and forcibly converting the three children to Islam.
"There is no forgiveness from us. We have lost so many things in this nine years because of him (Muhammad Riduan).
"Me and my children [were] not able to create a memory of Prasana Diksa’s childhood. It’s just gone like that and it still remains a question whether we will [be] able to see Prasana again,” Indira told Malay Mail when met at her house in Taman Rishah here, referring to her youngest daughter who would turn 10 this year.
Muhammad Riduan, a Muslim convert, abducted Prasana in 2009 when she was 11 months old and converted his three children to Islam without their knowledge and without Indira’s consent, before going to the Shariah court just a few days later to obtain custody rights for them.
This sparked a court battle for nine long years, as Indira, a Hindu, fought to gain custody of her three children — Prasana; Karan Dinish, 19; and Tevi Darsiny, 20 — and to quash their conversions.
The battle finally ended last Monday, when the Federal Court nullified their conversions and ruled that consent of both parents was needed to convert a minor.
Indira said her family had to go through so many problems because of Muhammad Riduan.
"We have been going back and forth for the court cases. It was exhausting. We never had a normal life.
"My children’s identity was at stake all this while. They have to go through the struggle and pain as well,” she added.
Karan and Tevi have declared that they are Hindu.
Indira said Muhammad Riduan was still creating problems for the family, despite the Federal Court ordering him to return Prasana to the family.
"Even though we have won the court case legally, yet we are disappointed as Prasana is yet to be returned to us,” she said.
