KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 — Firefighters are still working to extinguish the forest fire around a limestone hill in Batu Caves that took place since yesterday.
Selangor Fire and Rescue assistant director Mohd Sani Harul said the operation might continue until tomorrow due to the factor of height and the risk of limestone falling could endanger the fire fighters.
“Three half an acre areas at the hilltop are still burning,” he said when contacted by Bernama here today.
He said so far a total of 70 personnel and three fire engines from the Selayang, Gombak and Wangsa Maju Fire and Rescue stations were deployed to the scene to control the situation.
However, he said there was no necessity to evacuate residents of Kampung Sri Gombak living nearby the scene.
Yesterday, the forest around a limestone hill in Batu Caves, located about one kilometre from the Sri Subramaniyar Swamy Temple caught fire involving an area of about 12 hectares, believed to be due to the burning of trash by certain parties. — Bernama
