KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 ― The Opposition coalition's motion of no confidence to boot out Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak made it to the parliamentary order paper and is listed as the last meeting agenda for the day in the Dewan Rakyat today.
The motion is to be moved by Pakatan Harapan leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and is the 31st item on the list.
Pakatan Harapan confirmed last month that Dr Wan Azizah will be filing a notice to Parliament on the no confidence motion against Najib some time that month.
The motion is to replace the one filed by PKR MP Hee Loy Sian previously.
However, Hee’s motion on the same matter was also listed as one of the motions for debate today.
On October 21, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia said that the Opposition should first submit a list of MPs willing to support a motion of no confidence against Najib to establish if the move has enough traction for a debate.
Pandikar said the list would give him leverage to pressure Putrajaya to agree in having the motion tabled and debated, especially if the numbers go beyond the 89 seats occupied by the Opposition.
Najib is currently facing pressure over the multi-billion ringgit 1Malaysia Development Berhad controversy, which Opposition MPs are using to seek the no confidence vote against him in Parliament.
Apart from members of the Opposition, Najib's predecessor, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has also urged those in Barisan Nasional to support any bid in Parliament to remove the former.
