Chemical factory goes up in smoke in Puchong, no injuries reported

KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 — Allchem Lubricant Sdn Bhd, a chemical processing plant incurred a loss of about RM10 million when it was completely destroyed in a fire at the Bandar Kinrara industrial area, Puchong here today.

Cheras District Police chief ACP Chong Kok Sin said following the fire, Preformed Line Product Sdn Bhd, an adjacent plant that made and sold electric cable software was also partially destroyed in the fire.

He told Bernama the 11.30am incident was believed to have been caused by a short circuit from the chemical plant before it spread to the adjacent one.

Six fire engines from the Serdang, Puchong, Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya, Cyberjaya and Bukit Jalil fire stations with 36 personnel were rushed to the scene after a call was received from the public at 11.47am, he said.

According to him, the employers of the two affected plants reported that 65 of their workers were safe and there was no loss of lives.

The Department of Environment was also called to conduct investigation on the burnt chemical to see if these could endanger the public.

Chong said the chemical involved was Excin Acide that is used for the manufacturing of silicon oil.

Meanwhile Puchong Fire and Rescue Station chief operation commander Mohd Hisham Mat Yasih said the Selangor Fire forensic was conducting further investigation at the two plants. — Bernama
