Stop speculating about fatal accident on DUKE highway, say police

KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 — Police have asked all quarters including the media to stop speculating about the fatal accident on the DUKE Highway which claimed three lives yesterday.

Bukit Aman Traffic Police chief Datuk Mohd Fuad Abd Latiff said incorrect information spread about the accident could affect the police’s efforts in finding out the truth.

He also gave assurance that the investigation on the case would be done in a transparent manner and without prejudice.

“Those who were found negligent to the extent of causing death will be charged in court,” he said in a statement here today.

So far, he said the police had arrested a 31-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman in connection with the fatal accident.

Mohd Fuad said the duo, however, had been released on police bail and was ordered to report to Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police station within two weeks.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and eyewitnesses were requested to contact the nearest police station to facilitate in the investigation.

A couple and their seven-month-old baby girl were killed after their Mitsubishi Pajero met with an accident with two Perodua Myvi cars on the DUKE Highway at 1.05am yesterday.

They were identified as Fairuz Nizam Husain, 35, his wife, Nova Safitri Azhari, 25, and their baby Nur Firuza Annisa. — Bernama
