Think gender reveal parties are overrated? This Singaporean couple chose to pro-wrestle theirs

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 — It’s 2024, and you would think some people would have got the memo that baby gender reveal parties are outdated by at least 10 years.

But this Singaporean soon-to-be parents who shared theirs on Reddit proved that such parties do not have to be sappy and gush, and that everyone can have fun and be entertained, even when watching by remote.

On the r/singapore page today, Reddit user hueshonhue shared how the Ongs held a pro-wrestling gender reveal last weekend in a 42 second video clip.

Titled "Singapore’s First Gender Reveal Wrestling Party”, the video opens with two guys in a ring; one dressed in blue and the other pink with his short hair tied up into two tiny pony tailed-bunches on either side of his head.

If the blue pro-wrestler wins, it’s a boy; and if pink wins, it’s a girl.

We’re told that Mummy Ong knows the baby’s gender, but Daddy doesn’t. Cue to the pool of betting money placed on a side table.

And so the gender reveal gets underway with the two amateurs busting out their pro-wrestling moves to "Baby Shark” music.

There’s the classic diving clothesline with Player Blue tackling Player Pink by jumping off the ring rope, and even swinging him upside down before smashing him to the mat.

But Player Pink is no wuss and does a chest dive onto a supine Player Blue.

The crowd – it’s ring seats for everyone – goes wild!

In the Reddit comments below, the viewers also go nuts.

"I don’t like gender reveal parties. But, this is entertaining,” TheBorkenOne wrote.

"if youe [sic] gonna be rich, at least be creative rich, thank you. this is cute,” said 2ddudesop.

For those who don’t know what a gender reveal party is, like this one seemingly clueless Reddit user aidilism, be glad that he asked: "Sorry uncle old but what is a gender reveal party?”

The answer as given by Redditor DuePomegranate:

"It’s a party usually held by a pregnant woman to reveal to friends and family whether the fetus is male or female.

"I guess afterwards, the friends and family know what colour clothing to buy and give to the baby?”

Oh, if you’re wondering how it ended, Baby Ong is a boy! Player Blue won.
