KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 — A hotel customer service manager in Putrajaya is unfazed over criticisms about the colourful baju Raya that he wears and has vowed to continue making it.

Muhammad Faddrullah Ismail said he resorted to making his own baju Raya as he did not wish to wear the same clothing like others.

"I started making my own baju Raya in 2013, from designing to sewing it,” the Diploma in Fashion Design graduate from Mara University of Technology (UiTM) told Harian Metro.

Faddrullah, who also takes baju Raya orders, said the number of Raya clothes he make for himself would depend on the number of leave days he has to celebrate Hari Raya.

"There will be one pair for each day of leave I have. For this year, I only have two days of leave hence I only made two pairs,” he said, adding that the theme for this year was a burst of colour.

Faddrullah also said for this year's baju Raya, he spent about RM2,000 to make one pair but the cost would depend on the material used.

While some described his design as only suitable to be worn by effeminate men, Faddrullah said he was comfortable wearing it.

His family also did not stop him from wearing the clothes he designed but instead look forward to it every year, besides encouraging him on his creative journey.

In a Facebook post, Faddrullah denied he was a cross dresser.

He said he just loved to wear something unusual during each Hari Raya and it was just for fun.

"Chill everyone and enjoy your eid al-fitr without any judgement. Thank you.”
