Visitors can also step into the mind of the eccentric filmmaker and animator by exploring his past works.

The pop up museum which debuted in 2009 has made waves across the world including in China, Germany, Prague and South Korea.

Malaysia is the 12th stop of their tour and is also the first and only South East Asian country to host the pop up museum.

It is the last Asian stop for this leg.

From sketches and drawings to authentic life sized sculptures and screen-used puppets, the pop up museum holds over 500 pieces of Burton's works across 10 thematic sections.

This include some works and props from his famous films such as The Corpse Bride, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Beetlejuice, Mars Attack, Batman as well as the highly acclaimed Netflix series Wednesday.

The exhibition also has a designated section on Burton’s unreleased projects including sketches from the unreleased DC film Superman Lives where actor Nicolas Cage was casted as the iconic man of steel.

Amongst other sections of the pop up museum includes the Influences section, the Misunderstood Outcasts section, Around the World section as well as The Artist’s Studio section.

Tim Burton Production’s collection and exhibitions manager Brandi Pomfret hoped that visitors will realise how often Burton would revisit his characters and themes and how all of the characters are part of him.

She added that fans of Burton can also go into an easter egg hunt as the exhibition is filled with them.

"Everything is authentic, the puppets were screen used on the films. The only work that is not, is the very large Martian from Mars Attack, which was recreated by the people who worked on the film to the exact same specs.

"The original oversized martians were run over by tanks in the film as part of the scenes, so they don’t exist in their full shape anymore,” she said.

Pomfret added that the only other thing that was recreated for the exhibition was the Burton’s studio replica where 85 per cent of it is exactly as the animator’s workplace.

Burton himself was scheduled to come to Malaysia for a meet and greet and book signing session with fans but it was cancelled when he tested positive for Covid-19 and is undergoing quarantine.

The World of Tim Burton pop up museum is now open to the public from March 21 until July 30 at level 2, Pink Zone in Pavilion Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

Tickets are priced at RM88 for adults, RM68 for children and seniors, and RM48 for people with disabilities. There is also a season pass for RM498 that allows for multiple entries.
