KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23 – As the feasting season is about to start – it may already have done so going by all the Christmas and year-end parties everywhere – I've been reaching out for simpler meals like the fresh chapati from newly-discovered Sentosa Chapati.
Located inside Taman Sri Sentosa, just off Old Klang Road, this roadside stall run by a Punjabi family serves wholesome fare.
You can enjoy chapati (RM2) made upon order. The fluffy soft flatbread is delicious; slowly tear off pieces and savour with their mung dhal that has whole soft beans. If chapati is not your thing, they also offer thosai and paratha.
And if you wish to indulge a little, there's mutton curry (RM10) too. The tender pieces of mutton are gorgeous coated in a dry curry that is lightly spicy. Vegetarians can opt for their potato curry.
They also make rijma saag, a dish that incorporates healthy greens with spices that is best eaten with hot-off-the-griddle chapati.
It's always a treat when you discover a place that serves fresh cow's milk.
Enjoy your meal here with a cup of Bru coffee made with fresh cow's milk to perk up your day. If you prefer, the cow's milk can also be enjoyed plain. They pair the milk with tea and serve it plain or with turmeric. The Bru coffee with fresh cow's milk is RM3.50.
With the rainy days we have been experiencing, the sup kambing (RM10) also makes for a perfect meal. Cooked for five hours or so, the thick broth filled with chunks of mutton is super satisfying. Each bowl is served piping hot and garnished with fresh parsley and fried onions. Enjoy this on its own or a plate of rice.
The soup is said to be from a 30-year-old recipe. There's also sup ayam.
I've only uncovered the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the dishes served here as they have quite a spread of cooked dishes like mutton masala, chicken masala and sambal chicken. There's even sambal petai. You also have fried goodies like curry puffs, samosas and pakodas.
Another crowd favourite here is their vegetarian nasi lemak served with a spicy sambal.
If you want chapati delivered to your doorstep, Sentosa Chapati is listed on Grab Food and Food Panda.
