KUALA LUMPUR, July 18 — The Philharmonic Society of Selangor (The Phil) is celebrating its 65th anniversary with a not-to-be-missed concert that will take you down memory lane with well-loved songs from movies and musicals.

Held at KLPAC in four shows from July 28 to 30, an 80-member community choir will delight the audience with classic hits from My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, Jersey Boys, Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Lion Sleeps Tonight, What I Do for Love, Dream A Little Dream, just to name a few.

Backing the choir will be a four-piece live band comprising Elaine Toon on keyboard, Loh Ui Li on keyboards, Wafi on bass and Cliff Wong on drums.

Conducted by veteran Mervyn Peters, the 90-minute show is for audiences above the age of eight and stars Elvira Arul and Fang Chyi, known for their soulful, powerful vocals and long-time supporters of The Phil.

“Everyone is excited about putting on a memorable show and to give the audience the kind of show that The Phil is known for,” said chairperson Brenda James.

“This is testament to the concerted spirit of building a community in harmony through music and the sense of community that The Phil represents.”

On their 65th anniversary celebrations, she said: "What a milestone for a society that has contributed so profoundly to the performing arts landscape of Malaya and subsequently Malaysia for over six and a half decades!”

Over the years, proceeds from productions have been donated to many charitable organisations in Malaysia.

This year, The Phil is proud to support Hospis Malaysia, Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation - National Centre, Make a Wish Foundation, Persatuan Insan Istimewa IMC, Silent Teddies, Kechara Soup Kitchen Society, Persatuan Kebajikan Sri Eden Selangor & Kuala Lumpur, Dignity for Children Foundation, Befrienders KL and National Autistic Society of Malaysia.

The show on Friday, July 28 at 8pm is for Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation’s national centre while Saturday, July 29 at 3pm is for Hospis Malaysia.

Multiple charities will receive the proceeds from shows on Saturday, July 29 at 8pm and Sunday, July 30 at 3pm.
